In a groundbreaking move, the Federal Authority of Identity, Citizenship, Customs, and Port Security (ICP) has introduced the ‘Biometric Self-Enrolment Station,’ a game-changing service that promises to streamline the issuance of Emirates ID and UAE passports. Unveiled at GITEX 2023, this innovative technology marks a significant leap forward in accessibility and efficiency.
The Biometric Self-Enrolment Station eliminates the need for tedious appointments and visits to a centre. Now, UAE citizens and residents can complete their biometrics and receive their Emirates ID or UAE passports within minutes, thanks to self-service kiosk machines.
Benefits
No Waiting, No Appointments: The kiosk service operates 24/7, allowing individuals to complete the process at their convenience.
Inclusive Design: Equipped with motion sensors and a hydraulic system, the kiosk caters to everyone, ensuring a smooth experience, including for People of Determination.
While the service is currently showcased at GITEX 2023, its official rollout is expected in 2024. This futuristic approach to biometric enrollment signifies a significant advancement in the landscape of identity and citizenship services.
How You Can Use It?
Step 1: Complete the Application Online and Visit a Kiosk
Initiate the process by completing the application for renewing or issuing an Emirates ID or passport online. The ‘UAEICP’ mobile app or the smart services platform (smartservices.icp.gov.ae) serves as the gateway. Upon completion, you receive a registration form with a Quick Response (QR) code, guiding you to the nearest kiosk.
Step 2: Height Entry and Photography
At the kiosk, retrieve your details by scanning the QR code or passport. Enter your height in centimetres or let the in-built sensors detect it. The camera adjusts accordingly and captures a passport-sized photograph.
Step 3: Biometrics Registration
Commence the biometrics process, following on-screen instructions. Biometrics registration is required for individuals above 15 renewing their Emirates ID or newcomers applying for the first time.
Step 4: E-Signature and Submission
Enter your e-signature using the electronic pen and submit your details. ICP verifies your information, and upon completion, your Emirates ID is delivered to your provided address.
Kiosk Locations
ICP plans to strategically place kiosks in easily accessible public locations, such as malls, airports, and other high-traffic areas.
Embracing the Future
The introduction of the Biometric Self-Enrolment Station not only represents a technological milestone but also a commitment to providing efficient, inclusive, and accessible services to the citizens and residents of the UAE.
